Shiojiri 2017/1/26

Sunny day.

I woke up and it was 1.5°c in my house. Safe to say it was around -15 during the night.
Clear skies but don't be fooled. It's to damn cold outside.

My house door is frozen every evening and morning. Waiting for the shower door to freeze, that happens in February because that's the coldest month of the year here. I can't wait for March to come. One more month to go.

Pictures taken at 11:00 am today on top of the Ogino mall in Shiojiri city.

Went shopping, played with my daughter. Bought some stuff for kindergarten..

To cold to do a lot of outside work, I don't like freezing. Started snowing again and the cold wind bites.

Got to get the house ready for Airbnb guests tomorrow. Only 2 more guests this month. I can take it easy.

Thursday, January 19, 2017

It's cold.  Not a lot of snow but February is around the corner and that's always the coldest month.

Not a lot of guests coming this month and next month on Airbnb so I don't have to clean like a crazy man. I wouldn't go to Nagano in winter unless you wanna freeze your ass off.

It'll probably around 3°c in my house when I get home tonight. Sometimes the fridge is warmer.
Door rozen shut. At least I have a heated toilet seat, lol

Heat up one room, turn on the electric blanket and drink some warm sake. Extra blankets and I'm good for a warm night.

-17 next week, great!!

2 more months and it'll get warmer.

Kitakumai castle ruins, Shiojiri, Nagano-ken 2017/1/4

I've been driving past this spot for  years. It always seemed strange to me. Didn't fit in in with the landscape.

Found out it's an old castle. Yes, there was a castle in Shiojiri.

Built by the Ogasawara clan, the same people who built Matsumoto castle

Several features of the Takeda-style castle can be seen from the present remains, I found out it had something to do with the fight for Shiojiri Pass, which was conducted between Akira Takeda (Shingen) and Ogasawara Nagashi · Murakami Yoshinori in 1548.
A part of the outer moat in the southern part of the castle area has been cultivated and has disappeared.

Not a lot I can find about it's history.

There are ruins of other castles around the area, I think there were 7 castles in total. I'll go on a hike and look for those castles when I have the time.
